Create and assign a task

Admins and editors add tasks from the Tasks page. A new task is assigned to you until you choose someone else.

StepsTick steps off as you go

  1. Open the New task form

In the icon rail, choose Tasks, then choose the + next to the Tasks title. The New task form opens, and nothing is saved until you create the task. The + on a group in the List, or at the top of a Board column, starts the task in that status.

  2. Give it a title

Type a Task title. It is the only required field, and Create task stays unavailable until you add one.

  3. Set the details

Use the side panel to set Status (Backlog to begin with), Priority, Due, Project and Labels. You can also add a description and Sub-tasks.

  4. Assign it

Choose Assignee, then pick any member of the board, or No assignee. You can change the assignee later from the task's row, its card on the Board, or the open task.

  5. Create the task

Choose Create task, or press Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac). If you close the form after typing, BoardSites asks Discard this new task? and offers Keep editing.

Change several tasks at once

In the List, tick the checkboxes beside tasks. A bar at the bottom shows how many are selected, with Status, Priority, Assignee and Delete.

Who can create tasks

Admins and editors can create and change tasks. Viewers can see them but not change them, and the + is hidden for viewers.
